Training for New Volunteer Advocacy Workers Stage 1 is our initial training for new volunteers who are interested in becoming Volunteer Advocacy Workers. It is a 10 session training programme designed to develop the knowledge and skills that are necessary to carry out mental health advocacy. We usually run two course a year; one in the Spring and one in the Autumn. The Stage 1 training is participative and builds on skills that most people use in daily life. The course covers advocacy as a concept, AdvoCard’s approach, the concept of mental health / mental ill health, aspects of the mental health system and practice of the skills involved in advocacy, among other topics. The content of this training has been thoroughly updated and extended to make sure it is up to date with the concepts of advocacy and the legislation we work with.Stage 1 training usually takes place twice a year, with places in the training group usually limited to 12. The course is facilitated by the AdvoCard Training Worker and an experienced advocacy worker. Our next course will run in Autumn 2010. Dates will be posted here after the summer. If you would like to pop in for a coffee before that, to see what volunteering with AdvoCard would involve, again please get in touch. We would be delighted to hear from you. |
